If you look at the miniature home cinema sets which are widely available nowadays, you can notice two things:
1.) You might need more imagination than a positive-minded speaker technician to believe that these fist-sized speaker systems in thin plastic cabinets can deliver a sufficient sound. Compared with a specially designed high-fidelity speaker, you cannot ignore the limitations of these sets.
2.) Even with these systems which focus on minimum size and a most favourable price, you can often find centre speakers which feature at least a dual configuration of the full range effect speakers which are usually applied in these systems.
All in all, the second point just reflects that a centre speaker plays the most important and demanding part in a surround system. The performance of a home cinema system crucially depends on the centre speakers, then subwoofer, then front speakers and last but not least the rear speakers – always provided that the system features all of them. However, a high level standard can only be achieved with adequate solutions in each section. In case of an insufficient quality in the respective section, you can only achieve a limited result.
